SUMMARY:Community Priorities to End Hunger and Eliminate Disparities
DESCRIPTION:**Mensaje traducido al español abajo**  \nCommunity Priorities to End Hunger and Inequities\nVirtual Listening Session – July 11\, 2022 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm \nFor the first time in more than fifty years\, the President of the United States is holding a White House Conference on Hunger\, Nutrition\, and Health in September 2022. To prepare for this conference\, the Biden-Harris administration wants to hear what you: \nWhat do you and your family need in order to be healthy and thrive in your community? \nPlease join Nourish California and the California Association of Food Banks for a conversation on community priorities to end hunger and eliminate disparities. This listening session is for all to share their experiences\, stories\, and ideas about how the federal government should support the health and well being of individuals and families.  \nAll comments will be collected and shared with the Biden-Harris Administration to help inform their national strategy to end hunger\, which will be announced at the White House conference in September 2022. \nThe session will be conducted in English with simultaneous Spanish interpretation. \nWe encourage community members to join us. A $50 stipend will be provided to those with lived experience in appreciation of their time to share their story. \nTo facilitate discussion\, this session will be limited to 80 participants. \nRegister Here\nDuring the breakout sessions we will have an opportunity to discuss: \n\n Root causes of poverty and hunger  \n\nThis session is an opportunity to discuss the root causes of poverty and hunger\, including systemic racism. How have discrimination and bias affected your ability to get the food you need? How should programs and policies change in order to make resources (including food) and opportunities (including education and living wage jobs) fairly accessible to all? What should the federal government do to rectify the current and historic harm caused by racist policies and other forms of injustice? Please join this session to share your thoughts on these issues and more.  \n\nFederal Nutrition Assistance Programs \n\nThis session is an opportunity to discuss changes that would improve the reach and positive impacts of federal nutrition assistance programs\, such as CalFresh\, WIC and school meals. What are the barriers to participating in these programs? What should these programs do differently in order to better fight hunger and support well being? Please join this session to share your thoughts on these questions and more. \n\nFood4All: Immigrant access to food assistance – with Spanish interpretation \n\nThis session is an opportunity to discuss food access and food insecurity among immigrant communities. What challenges do immigrants face in accessing food assistance programs? What actions and changes are needed to make public food assistance programs more inclusive of all immigrants? How should the federal government be better supporting the health and well being of immigrant communities? Please join this session to share your thoughts on these topics and more. SUMMARY:Five Reasons to Apply for CEP in 2021
DESCRIPTION:Five Reasons to Apply for CEP in 2021\nThe Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a powerful tool to reach more students with the health and academic benefits of free school meals.  \nCEP is a federal option that enables eligible schools to serve a healthy breakfast and lunch free of charge to ALL students\, decreases administrative burdens\, and streamlines meal program operations. \nFederal waivers allow schools to serve meals free of charge to all students in SY 2021-22. And California state law requires schools to serve meals free of charge to all in SY 2022-23.  \nSo why is it important to apply for the Community Eligibility Provision NOW? Join our panel of local and national experts to find out. You’ll learn how schools and students will benefit from enrolling in CEP for the 2021-22 school year. You’ll have opportunities to ask questions and share your insights.  \nView video recording: \n 5 Important Reasons to Apply for CEP Now  September 10th\, 2021  \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Fees for this event have been waived for Nourish California’s partners. To watch the recording (coming soon) for free\, you must use the code 1wn083121 at the time of registration. \nOverview:\nAddressing food insecurity often requires coordination between health and social service providers\, but complex data privacy laws complicate care coordination.
