Climate change and its effects continue to disproportionately affect Black, Brown and Indigenous communities, and communities with low-income. Rising temperatures, heat waves and droughts, extreme storms, and fires affect people’s abilities to access food and water. While California has mechanisms in place to support the immediate needs of communities during emergencies and disasters, long term investments remain critically underfunded.

This seed campaign aims to listen to communities impacted by climate change, including people who have lost their homes, have been displaced, and have barriers to accessing or affording food and water. As we continue our advocacy around the CalFresh Safe Drinking Water Pilot, we’re also reassessing how we can be in greater alignment and partnership to ensure safe drinking water for all. We are seeking opportunities to collaborate with state and local community partners within the climate justice and safe drinking water movements to mitigate the impacts of future crises on food security, health, and well-being.
