Published on Jul 8, 2015 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children, State Legislation

7.8.2015 AB 292 (Santiago), the Time to Eat bill, passed the Senate Committee on Education today  with a 7-2 vote. The bill will be heard by the Senate Committee on Appropriations in August. We’d like to thank Assemblymember Santiago and all of our partners whose hard work has ensured AB 292’s success thus far!

Supporting testimony was provided by Alessandro Llaneta, a student advocate and rising senior at Del Norte High School in San Diego. Alessandro emphasized the critical role that school lunch plays in supporting student health and achievement. He stated that many students are forced to choose between eating lunch or making it to class on time, and many end up going the whole day without eating. Thanks to Alessandro for his excellent testimony.
