10.28.2013 Conferees from both the Senate and House will meet on Wednesday, 10/30 to begin farm bill negotiations and try to reconcile differences between the House and Senate proposals. Among other differences, the House proposal would cut $40 billion from SNAP over ten years, and the Senate proposal would cut $4 billion from SNAP over ten years.

Four California Representatives were appointed to the conference committee: Jim Costa (D), Gloria Negrete-McLeod (D), Jeff Denham (R), and Ed Royce (R). Over the next few weeks, it’s important to reach out to their offices and tell them to oppose SNAP cuts.

Several members of Congress have already spoken out against SNAP cuts. Most recently, both of California’s Senators, Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, signed on to a letter from 39 Senators urging conferees to protect SNAP.
