AB 1508 Held in Assembly Appropriations

AB 1508 was held by Assembly Appropriations, and will not move forward this year. However, the budget campaign for Breakfast After the Bell Grants is still alive! link

Reach out and call the Assembly Budget Committee Chairs today to voice support for Breakfast After the Bell Grants. link

Assemblymembers Bonta and Rubio, and Senator Rubio, are championing a budget request to support effective Breakfast After the Bell programs. While AB 1508’s progress was stalled, the budget request has been heard by both the Assembly and Senate Education Finance Subcomittees, and should be moving through the budget process as the Legilsature makes final decisions in the coming weeks. CFPA is co-sponsoring this effort with our partners at No Kid Hungry—California.

The budget request, like AB 1508, will sustain state grants for the start-up and expansion of effective breakfast after the bell programs in schools serving low-income communities, with prioritization for high-poverty schools. Stay tuned for calls to action with the Budget Committees soon!
