AB 1871: Act Now & Tell the Senate to Vote Yes

Published on Aug 16, 2018 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children, State Legislation

Today, the Senate Appropriations Committee brought California one step closer to #FoodAndFairness with its support of AB 1871 (Bonta).

Low-income students in charter schools are the only low-income students in California public schools who do not have guaranteed access to at least one free or reduced-price meal each school day. AB 1871 will change that.

What’s Next?
AB 1871 heads to the Senate Floor where every Senator will have a chance to vote on the bill. Let’s make sure they vote “yes” — California should feed hungry students no matter where they go to school.

Act Now
The Senate will likely vote on AB 1871 next week. Please write, call, and Tweet your support by Tuesday, August 21.

Hello. My name is ________. I live in ______, CA. I am calling to ask Senator ________ to vote yes on AB 1871, a bill by Assemblymember Bonta that will give low-income students in public charter schools guaranteed access to school meals. I believe that all children living in poverty deserve nutritious meals, no matter where they go to school. Thank you.
