Assemblymember Mark Stone Introduces AB 2099

Published on Feb 19, 2016 in CalFresh, State Legislation

2.19.16 On February 17, 2016, Assemblymember Mark Stone (D-Monterey) introduced AB 2099, Safe Drinking Water for Food Insecure Families. The bill would authorize the State’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system to deliver interim, supplemental benefits to low-income California households without safe drinking water. For these Californians, having to purchase drinking water puts already limited household budgets – including food budgets – under additional strain. AB 2099 offers an innovative and effective way for communities to obtain safe drinking water when local supplies are inadequate.

CFPA is proud to sponsor AB  2099 and is excited to be working with Assemblymember Stone to efficiently deliver much-needed emergency benefits to low-income households with inadequate access to safe drinking water. A supplemental EBT benefit for safe drinking water can help ensure that unsafe water systems do not exacerbate hunger or food insecurity.
