4.30.2014 In October 2013, Governor Brown signed the CFPA-sponsored bill AB 290 (Alejo) Foundations for Healthy Nutrition in Child Care in to law. While the bill’s effective date is January 1, 2016, the implementation process has already begun. CFPA produced this brief fact sheet to answer all the questions you may have about AB 290 implementation.

AB 290 is expected to improve the nutritional quality of foods and beverages being served in child care by amending licensing laws to increase the required hours of preventive health practices training for providers to include one hour on childhood nutrition.
