Assembly Ed Votes to Support More Meals for Young Kids

Published on Mar 28, 2019 in Child Nutrition, State Legislation, Young Children

AB 842 (Limón) passed out of the Assembly Committee on Education yesterday with a unanimous vote of support! AB 842 would increase access to healthy meals for low-income children in preschool and child care. A big thank you to Assemblymember Limón for championing this bill and to all of you for demonstrating wide support for this important piece of legislation!

Next, AB 842 will head to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations where the bill will need your continued support. If you have not yet sent in a letter of support to the Assembly, please do so today. On May 9th the State Senate Budget Subcommittee on Education has also tentatively scheduled a public hearing at the State Capitol where funding for meals in preschool and child care will be discussed. This is one of only a few public opportunities to demonstrate support for funding healthy meals in preschool and child care. It is important that we demonstrate a large showing of support from diverse partners at the hearing. Please make plans to join us in Sacramento on May 9th and email melissa@cfpa.net for more details about the hearing. For those who can’t make it, stay tuned! We will be coordinating a call-in day around the budget hearing.
