Anti-Hunger Community Opposes Conaway's Farm Bill

Published on Apr 18, 2018 in CalFresh, Federal Advocacy

Yesterday, California anti-hunger partners submitted a letter to the state’s House Agriculture Committee members expressing deep concern over Chairman Conaway’s Farm Bill proposal. PDF The Conaway bill includes harmful proposals that would increase hunger by cutting off thousands of Californians from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, known as CalFresh in California). CFPA and California’s anti-hunger community are deeply disappointed to see the Committee reverse its history of bipartisan support for the SNAP program. CFPA’s summary of the bill’s harmful SNAP provisions can be found in CFPA’s statement on the Conaway Farm Bill Proposal.

TAKE ACTION: ASK YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TO OPPOSE CHAIRMAN CONAWAY’S FARM BILL PROPOSAL

Mark up of Conaway’s Farm Bill proposal is scheduled in the Committee on April 18th. Following the mark up, the bill will likely advance to the House floor for a vote. Now is an important time for all Californians fighting against hunger to make their voices heard in opposition to these harmful proposals. Take action now by calling your Representative. To find your Representative, call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or use this link.

Tell them to: “Reject Chairman Conaway’s proposal that would cut vital food assistance for millions of low-income working families, seniors, and people with disabilities. The Farm Bill should be bi-partisan and protect SNAP/CalFresh for the people who need it to help put food on the table.”
