On May 21st, the House of Representatives passed their version of a Budget Reconciliation that includes devastating cuts to SNAP (CalFresh in CA), Medicaid (Medi-Cal in CA), and other vital programs. As proposed, this bill will increase food insecurity and impact how Californians feed their families, get medical care, and afford everyday essentials.
But the fight is not over.
The Senate is now working on their version of the Budget Reconciliation. While the Senate’s proposals are different from the House version, they still include devastating cuts to programs families rely on everyday. The proposals are currently being negotiated in the Senate and a vote is expected on the Senate floor as soon as this weekend. If the Senate passes their version, the bill will likely return to the House for a final vote.
The first time this bill was in the House, it passed by one vote. When it comes back to the House, your Congressional Representative is a key vote that could stop this bill.
This is why your voice is needed. Call your Congressional Representative to tell them to vote NO when the reconciliation bill comes back to the House.
