CDE Accepting Applications for LCSSP Grant

Published on Apr 18, 2017 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

04.18.2017 The California Learning Communities for School Success Program (LCSSP) is a three year grant open to Local Education Agencies (LEAs), which provides funding for programs and practices aimed at keeping the state’s most vulnerable pupils in school. Proposed grant activities must complement and enhance actions identified in an LEA’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

The grant program allows for a wide variety of programs and strategies to improve student outcomes, including those that address pupil engagement, chronic absenteeism, suspensions and expulsions, and school climate.

We encourage school districts to consider applying for funds to help more students have access to the nutrition they need to show up to school, concentrate, and to be fully ready to learn. Strategies may include:

  • Implementing Breakfast After the Bell
  • Ensuring students have adequate time to eat
  • Providing meals free of charge to all students
  • Connecting students and their families to nutrition assistance programs, such as CalFresh and WIC
  • For ideas of research supported actions that your school district can take to address student attendance and suspensions and improve academic achievement, see CFPA’s Research Summary: School Nutrition and Academic Achievement

Letter of Intent Due Date: April 21st, 2017

Application Due Date: May 10th, 2017
