Intervention of Nutrition Practices in Child Care Centers.

California Food Policy Advocates (CFPA) in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division (MCAH) is examining current practices and methods to improving the nutrition environment in child care and how those practices can be improved.  This project aims to promote healthy eating and physical activity in child care centers in the County’s Service Planning Area (SPA) 6, which includes South Los Angeles and neighboring cities, and has been selected as our project target area due to its high rates of obesity in young children. The project aims to determine if there is a benefit to providing an in-person nutrition education training versus mailing nutrition information in a binder to the center versus having a control group.  The team are currently completing second assessments on these centers and hope to be able to publish the results soon.  Preliminary results will be showcased at the American Public Health Association conference this year in San Francisco.
