As you may have heard, over 100 people from a variety of surrounding school districts as well as community partners and nutrition advocates attended the event that included key note speaker Mayor Andre Quintero, Mayor of El Monte. The Mayor discussed how important health and nutrition is to the city of El Monte and how proud they are that El Monte City School District has done so much to ensure their students are healthy and well nourished. Other speakers included Superintendent Garcia, Dr. Robert Lewis, the Food Service Director, Sandip Kaur, Director of Nutrition Services at the California Department of Education, Mr. Munoz, Principal of Wilkerson Elementary School, Mrs. Garcia, a 4th grade teacher and two students very enthusiastic students Violeta Gutierrez and Manaya Alonzo.
Each of the speakers spoke of how much Breakfast in the Classroom has impacted the students and the school environment in different ways. Dr. Lewis gave a wonderful short training on how to implement this type of program in your school district. The California School Board Association interviewed and filmed some of the key stakeholders on the importance of ensuring students have access to the most important meal of the day.
