Local Advocates Voice Support for AB 191!

Published on Jul 24, 2013 in CalFresh, State Legislation

7.24.2013 Thanks to Hunger Action Los Angeles’coordination, several Los Angeles based advocates met with Senator de León in the 22nd Senate District. The group expressed to the Senator, who is the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, their support for AB 191 (Bocanegra) Strengthening the Connection between CalFresh & Medi-Cal.

Due to local advocacy efforts, such as these, Members of the California Legislature continue to be made aware of the ongoing challenge of hunger and food insecurity in their communities and the benefits of legislation, such as AB 191, that expand access to and participation in CalFresh. We greatly appreciate the work of our local partners! The visits, phone calls, and letters submitted will have a great impact on the likelihood of legislative success.

What does AB 191 do? AB 191 seeks to improve alignment between CalFresh and Medi-Cal to ensure that low-income households with a Medi-Cal recipient are more likely to receive CalFresh nutrition benefits.

You can take action today! AB 191 is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, August 12. There is still time to call or write the Appropriations Committee to show your support for AB 191. This is especially important if your Senator holds a position on the Senate Appropriations Committee. Voice your support for AB 191 today!
