Today, SB 464 (Hurtado)-Food4All passed the Senate Floor and will now move on to the Assembly. We are pleased that this brings us one step closer to ending the unjust immigrant exclusion in CalFresh
We applaud Senator Hurtado for her leadership on Food4All (ComidaParaTodos) and her commitment to creating an equitable nutrition safety net available to all Californians who need help putting food on the table. We would also like to thank our cosponsors, California Immigrant Policy Center, for their ongoing partnership and dedication to this campaign.
We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our Food4All Coalition partners and supporters who are meeting with their legislators, hosting events, making calls, sending emails, and more to express support and educate policymakers about the need to enact Food4All.
What’s Next?
We now have a crucial opportunity to enact the policy through the state budget. The Legislature has included Food4All in its version of the budget. Our advocacy moving forward will be focused on the Governor to ensure he agrees to prioritize equitable food access in the final budget he mush sign by June 30. Stay tuned for calls to action with instructions, sample call/email scripts, and a sharable social media toolkit.
We will need to demonstrate broad and deep support to get Food4All across the finish line. Together, we can ensure the state creates an equitable nutrition safety net for all Californians, regardless of immigration status.
