Hello. My name is ________. I live in ______, CA. I am calling to ask Senator ______ to support SB 499 and full funding for the “California Grown Healthy Kids Program”, which would create healthy, hunger-free schools through an extra 10¢ per breakfast reimbursement to purchase fresh California-grown fruits and vegetables for. To earn this incentive, school districts must serve breakfast universally free in all schools and serve breakfast and lunch universally free at very high poverty schools. [choose one or more of the following reasons or tell them your own]

  • A substantial body of research clearly demonstrates that school breakfast significantly improves academic performance and physical and emotional health.
  • Hunger-free schools, where meals are served free to all students, eliminate stigma.
  • Access to fresh fruits and vegetables in school is important to students and parents.
