Thanks to your support, we are one step closer making the California Grown for Healthy Kids Act a reality! SB 499 (McGuire) passed out of Senate Appropriations Committee yesterday with a unanimous, bipartisan 6-0 vote and earlier this week the Senate approved full funding for the California Grown Healthy Kids program! SB 499’s California Grown for Healthy Kids program would create a 10¢ per breakfast reimbursement for school districts that serve breakfast universally free in all schools and breakfast and lunch universally free in high poverty schools.

We are grateful for Senator McGuire’s leadership on SB 499 and thankful to the Senate Appropriations and Budget Committees for recognizing the importance of supporting fresh, California-grown fruits and vegetables in our high poverty schools.

SB 499 needs your continued support!! The Assembly has not yet confirmed annual funding for the California Grown for Healthy Kids program in their budget. Additionally, SB 499 is moving to the Senate Floor for a vote from every Senator.

ACT NOW TO LET YOUR SENATORS KNOW YOU SUPPORT SB 499!
