Community Eligibility and LCFF: How to Get the Income Data You Need While Feeding More Hungry Children
Please join us for a Webinar organized by the California Food Policy Advocates, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and the Food Research and Action Center to hear from school districts that have successfully collected income data without relying on school meal applications.
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allows high poverty schools to eliminate school meal applications and serve breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students so they can be fueled and ready to learn. Schools that have implemented the CEP have experienced striking increases in school meal participation and some report improved attendance. In the absence of school meal applications, California schools will need to gather individual income information for their students to receive full funding from the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
The Webinar will be offered on two separate dates and times. Local educational agencies (LEA) may choose to participate in either session, or both if interested. Please note that this is not the same information from previous CEP Webinars presented by the California Department of Education. Information will include a brief review of how CEP works provided by the California Department of Education and detailed explanations of how the Oakland Unified School District and Chicago Public Schools collect individual student income data.
