9.19.2013 With a 217-210 vote, the House narrowly passed a bill cutting SNAP by $40 billion over the next ten years. This cut will deny nearly 4 million Americans thier food benefits, including about 350,000 Californians. Others will see reductions in their monthly benefit amounts. At a time in which millions of Americans are still struggling to get by in the aftermath of the worst economic crisis since The Great Depression, we call on the U.S. Senate to reject the House SNAP proposal and its nearly $40 billion in cuts to SNAP.
