Water with MyPlate Please

4.15.2015 Water is essential to a healthy diet and now you, too, can urge USDA to add a water symbol onto MyPlate.

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee expressed in a recent report their support for strategies to encourage Americans to choose the low-cost, zero-calorie beverage option. The public has an opportunity until May 8th to also voice their support for making water the beverage of choice in schools, childcare centers, worksites, transportation hubs and other public spaces.

“Water: First for Thirst,” a movement spearheaded by our partners at the Nutrition Policy Institute (NPI), is urging the U.S. government to promote plain drinking water in the upcoming 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

More specifically, NPI is urging USDA to

  • Add a symbol for water to USDA’s MyPlate graphic, and
  • Adopt strong language about drinking water in the Dietary Guidelines

Join the movement to make Water First for Thirst and help our nation join other countries across the globe in making water a key element of our diet.
