5.15.2011 Cuts to and restructuring of SNAP funding would harm low-income Californians, as well as state and local economies. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan recently introduced a long-term federal budget plan that was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on April 15, 2011. The Resolution will reach the floor in late May for a vote. While the Resolution is likely “dead on arrival,” this analysis holds value in discussing the most recent assault on SNAP funding and program structure. As Congress continues work on the development of a federal budget that aims to closes the deficit, advocates should be aware of the potential impacts of similar proposals if reintroduced.
