9.9.2013 AB 191 (Bocanegra) Strengthening the Connection between CalFresh and Medi-Cal passed the Senate today with a bipartisan vote of 28-10. AB 191 seeks to improve alignment between CalFresh and Medi-Cal in order to ensure that low-income households with a Medi-Cal recipient are more likely to also receive CalFresh nutrition benefits.

Because AB 191 was amended in the Senate, the bill will now head to the Assembly for concurrence. If both houses approve the bill “as-is”, AB 191 will then go to the Governor for action before Sunday, October 13. Stay tuned for more information on next steps!
