Assembly Education Committee to Discuss AB 842 (Limón) on March 27th

Letters of supports needed to help advance AB 842 out of committee. AB 842 (Limón) is a bill sponsored by California Food Policy Advocates that would increase access to healthy meals for low-income children in preschool and child care. The bill would more adequately compensate child care providers for serving healthy meals to low-income children by authorizing all family child care home providers and child care centers to participate in California’s state meal program, a program currently only available to public schools which supplements the federal reimbursement for every breakfast and lunch served to eligible, low-income children. The bill also guarantees that our youngest public school students have access to a nutritious, free or low-cost meal by expanding California’s longstanding school meal mandate to child care and development programs operated by public schools. AB 842 is scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Education Committee on March 27th in Sacramento. Help demonstrate support for this important piece of legislation by sending in a letter of support today.
