AB 842 needs your support to clear its last and biggest hurdle, the Governor’s signature! AB 842 is a state bill authored by Assemblymember Limón that, if passed, would provide guaranteed access to a nutritious, free or low-cost meal for our youngest public school students. The bill would also eliminate a longstanding inequity to the state supplemental meal reimbursement, a policy that only reimbursed prop 98 eligible family child care home providers for 75% versus 100% of all the meals served to eligible, low-income children.
Here’s how you can help.
AB 842 passed off the Senate floor with a unanimous vote of support on September 10th and now heads to Governor Newsom. Governor Newsom has until the end of September to sign or veto bills. He can act on AB 842 at any time, so let’s raise our voices now!

Sample script: Hello. My name is _. I live in _, CA. I am calling to ask Governor Newsom to sign AB 842 by Assemblymember Limón. AB 842 would give low-income children attending preschool or child care at a California public school guaranteed access to a meal. I believe that all children living in poverty and attending a California public school deserve nutritious meals, no matter how old they are or what grade they are in. Thank you.
