USDA Releases At-Risk Afterschool Meals Handbook

Published on Jul 19, 2011 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

7.19.2011  Many afterschool sites serving snacks are now eligible to serve meals to students and teens participating in their afterschool programs! The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 expanded the Child and Adult Care Food Program to reimburse afterschool meals served at at-risk sites . California schools, community sites, and parks are all eligible to convert their USDA-funded snack program (two food components) to the new meal program (four food components). Schools, community sites, and parks can start a meal program from scratch, as long as there are youth participating in an enrichment program.

USDA has issued a handbook to further explain the at-risk afterschool meals component of CACFP PDF
