Breakfast in the Classroom Impacts Academic Achievement

Published on Nov 21, 2013 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children

11.21.2013  Over the last decade or so there have been a variety of reports and evaluations correlating the consumption of breakfast and the many benefits it brings.  Some of these benefits at schools include a reduction in tardiness, absenteeism, nurse visits due to hunger pains and headaches, improved test scores and focus as well as overall better classroom behavior.

To help increase access to the most important meal of the day and to achieve some of these benefits many schools and school districts have moved their model of breakfast service from before the school bell in the cafeteria to after the bell in the classroom

San Diego Unified School District has just put out this report on the academic benefits their Breakfast in the Classroom program is bringing to their students.  link
