Farm Bill Clears Senate 68-32, Heads to President

Published on Feb 4, 2014 in Federal Advocacy

2.4.2014 The Farm Bill, which includes a $9 billion cut to SNAP, passed the Senate today by a 68-32 vote and will head to President Obama for signature. Both of California’s Senators voted in favor of the bill. The SNAP cuts will have a negative impact on roughly 300,000 low-income households in California.

CFPA has opposed, and continues to oppose, the Farm Bill so long as it includes cuts to SNAP. Policymakers should focus on bolstering benefits and ensuring that low-income households can put food on the table; today’s Senate vote is a move in the opposite direction. CFPA urges President Obama to veto this bill.
