House GOP Tax Bill a Bad Deal for Low- and Moderate-Income Californians

Published on Nov 14, 2017 in Federal Advocacy

11.14.2017 This Thursday, November 16, the House is expected to hold a floor vote on HR 1, its version of the GOP Tax Bill. The plan includes the same flawed ideas as previous proposals, including:

  • Prioritizing tax cuts for the wealthiest households and profitable corporations over low- and moderate income households;
  • Dramatically increasing the deficit by as much as $1.5 trillion, which would set up future calls for budget cuts to programs and services that help millions of Californians make ends meet, including SNAP and Medicaid (CalFresh and Medi-Cal in California);
  • Punishing Californians by scaling back the state and local tax deduction, which would increase the tax burden for many middle-income households and make it harder for the state to adequately fund programs that help low-income families, K-12 education, higher education, public safety, and infrastructure.

CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY – TELL THEM TO VOTE NO ON THE HOUSE GOP TAX BILL

Call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or click here to find your Representative. Tell them to Vote NO on the House tax bill, which adds $1.5 trillion to the deficit, benefits the wealthiest Americans at the expense of working families, and is a bad deal for California.

What’s next in the process?

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to begin markup of their, similarly flawed, tax cut bill next week.
