House Takes Up Farm Bill, Doesn't Restore SNAP Cuts

6.19.2013 In the first day of Farm Bill debate, the House voted on several critical amendments relating to SNAP. CFPA continues to urge California Congressmembers to support amendments restoring SNAP and oppose any amendments harming SNAP.

Summary of initial amendments:  

  • McGovern (MA) Amendment to restore SNAP funding: Failed 
  • Hudson (NC), La Malfa (CA), Yoho (FL) Amendment allowing states to conduct drug testing on SNAP recipients: Passed 
  • Black (TN) Amendment terminating an agreement between USDA and Mexican government known as “Partnership for SNAP”: Passed
  • Chabot (OH) Amendment to require state agencies to expunge SNAP benefits that have not been accessed by a household after 60 days: Passed
