Join CFPA in opposition to a new citizenship question in the 2020 US Census! In solidarity with our partners in California and nationwide, CFPA is strongly opposed to the Department of Justice request to add a question to the 2020 US Census that asks respondents to indicate which members of their families are U.S. citizens.
Demographic experts- including those at the US Census Bureau- have expressed grave concern that this proposed question will intimidate and discourage immigrant residents from responding to the Census, which will lead to inaccurate counts that leave California communities under-resourced and underrepresented. A Census undercount would result in an inadequate distribution of governmental funding for crucial programs to California communities, including nutrition programs like WIC for pregnant women and young children.
