The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) primarily serves California’s most marginalized children, including low-income children and children of color. Like other Child Nutrition programs (including WIC and the National School Meal programs), CACFP does not collect information about the immigration status of program participants, nor does it exclude participants based on their immigration background.
In California, where one in every two Californian children have one or more immigrant parents, and where immigrant communities are facing new federal threats everyday, it is very important for CACFP to consider it’s role in meeting the needs of all of the children and families in its community.
As discussed in the slides below, the CACFP is a promising program for addressing cultural, racial, and socioeconomic disparities that exist for California’s youngest children and their early care and education providers.
