06.28.2017 SB 138 (McGuire) is headed towards a July 12th hearing in Assembly Education. Thank you for your advocacy and support thus far – we are another step closer to many more hunger free schools in California. We are grateful to Senator McGuire who has championed this issue and helped SB 138 pass off the Senate floor with a 40-0 vote!

The Assembly Committee on Education will need new, updated letters of support for the record – even if you submitted one in the Senate. Letters are due to the Committee by next Wednesday, July 5. Please send in an updated letter of support ASAP. doc

SB 138 (McGuire) – Count Me In: Expand Access to School Meals, aims to enroll more than 650,000 students directly into school meals through Medi-Cal Direct Certification, which will enable high-poverty schools to make meals available free of charge to all students through a universal meal provision. Recent amendments were made to strengthen the alignment between universally free school meals and the state’s education funding formula, LCFF.

Once you’ve sent in an updated letter, please call, email or tweet your support link
