SB 782 Passes Senate Ag with Unanimous Support!

Published on Apr 18, 2017 in Child Nutrition, School-Aged Children, State Legislation

4.18.2017 SB 782 (Skinner) passed the Senate Agriculture Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support! SB 782 would establish a grant program to incentivize public schools to serve more California-grown food in freshly prepared school meals.

A big thank you to Senator Skinner for being a great champion of this bill, to our co-sponsors at NextGen California, and to all those who provided powerful testimonies during today’s committee hearing including Vince Caguin of Natomas Unified. We are especially grateful to the Senate Agriculture Committee for recognizing that SB 782 is not only an investment in our agriculture industry, but also in our students.

SB 782 will need your continued support as it moves to the Senate Committee on Education on April 26. If you have already sent in a letter of support thank you! If not, it is not too late. Letters of support can be sent in by COB Wednesday, April 19th to the Senate Committee on Education.
