Take Action! California Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot

Published on May 14, 2018 in CalFresh, State Legislation

State legislation to support affordable, healthy food and California agriculture is moving forward, but needs your support to clear the next hurdle! The Assembly Budget Committee will be taking action on the California Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot Project on May 24th and the Senate Budget Committee will do so shortly thereafter.

This is a critical time to tell state leaders to prioritize statewide solutions that make healthy food more affordable to improve the health and wellbeing of low-income Californians.

Subject: SUPPORT- CA Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot

Dear State Budget Leaders:

[I am/Name of your organization is] writing to support funding the California Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot Project in the state budget. This will enable the CalFresh EBT system to integrate supplemental nutrition benefits that support California-grown produce purchases. Initiatives that provide financial incentives to CalFresh/SNAP recipients show that when low-income families have more money for fruits and vegetables, they buy and eat more fruits and vegetables! For these programs to be more effective and accessible, California needs a state CalFresh system that is efficient and accessible at local grocers and markets.
