Helping All Californians Thrive

California is home to one of the world's largest economies — and one of the nation’s highest rates of poverty. Extraordinarily high housing costs, stagnant wages, and a long history of inequitable opportunities create a tremendous gap between the haves and have nots in our state. Millions of Californians struggle to meet their most basic needs from food to housing to healthcare.

Our Work

Nourish California works to shape the programs and policies that should connect—but sometimes stand between—people and the food they need to thrive.

For example, we helped remove barriers that hindered participation in CalFresh, including rules that required applicants to be fingerprinted, give up reliable cars, spend down modest savings, and submit to in-person interviews. We advocate changes like these to help Californians access the food they need now and build their economic security for the future.
