On April 29th, representatives from the Food4All coalition met with members of Governor Newsom's staff to urge his action to protect immigrant families from increased risk of hunger due to federal harm and to end xenophobic exclusions to food assistance based on immigration status or age.
The Food4All coalition is calling on Governor Newsom to protect our progress toward our state's promised expansion of our state-funded food assistance program, the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP), for Californians ages 55 and older, regardless of immigration status. The completion of technical automation for this expansion and its implementation is set to be complete in October 2027. Coalition partners also urged his administration to take swift action on addressing harmful cuts to food assistance for humanitarian immigrants due to H.R. 1.
Organizations on the call included: Nourish California, California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC), ÓRALE: Organizing Rooted in Abolition, Liberation, and Empowerment, Survivors of Torture, International (SURVIVORS), Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB), Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC), and The Children's Partnership (TCP).

Food4All is a movement and statewide campaign advocating to remove harmful exclusions to food assistance based solely on immigration status.
The Food4All coalition is anticipating the Governor's May Revision of the 2026-2027 state budget by May 14th. We urge the Governor to keep his commitment to immigrant communities, not follow the lead of the Trump administration, and instead lead on his values of immigrant inclusion.
Join us in taking action and urging our state's leaders to be bold and prioritize a safety net where everyone has access to the food they need, regardless of where they were born. Use our call to action call script linked here.
