Hunger-Free Preschool and Child Care Bill Introduced!

Published on Feb 21, 2019 in Child Nutrition, State Legislation, Young Children

Yesterday, Assemblymembers Monique Limón and Susan Eggman introduced AB 842, legislation to increase access to healthy meals for low-income children in preschool and child care.

AB 842 would achieve the following:

  • Ensures that all eligible, low-income public school students – including our youngest learners – are guaranteed access to a nutritious, free or low-cost meal during each program day while attending preschool or child care at a public school or California State Preschool Program.
  • Expands state supplemental meal funding for the Child and Adult Care Food Program to help preschool and child care providers put healthy meals on the table for low-income children.

We are fortunate to have Assemblymembers Limón and Eggman as champions, but we will need your help to build broad support in both the State Assembly and State Senate. You can support AB 842 by taking the following two actions:

1.) Submit a letter of support for AB 842: Click here to access a sample letter and directions for submission. doc

2.) Add your organization’s name to the coalition budget request letter: To sign on, email your organization’s logo to melissa@cfpa.net.
