10.13.2017 We’re launching #FarmBillFriday to educate, mobilize, and empower Californians to make sure that all us – from farm workers to military veterans, college students to working families, and the very youngest to the very oldest among us – have enough to eat.
Congress will soon begin discussions to renew the Farm Bill, which will expire in September 2018. The Farm Bill is the nation’s most important piece of food and farming legislation and includes our country’s largest anti-hunger investments. As Congress drafts the next Farm Bill, we need solutions that help all Californians feed themselves and their families.
#FarmBillFriday is a collective action to raise awareness about the Farm Bill and its importance to low-income Californians. It is also a mechanism to provide community members with the information they need to take action in support of their neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet. Lastly, #FarmBillFriday is a reaction: In September, The House Agriculture Committee kicked off a video series #FarmBillFriday to highlight the importance of a strong Farm Bill for all Americans. To date, the House Ag Committee’s video series has failed to mention that a strong Farm Bill must include nutrition support for our nation’s most vulnerable populations including children, working families, and seniors. We need to change the conversation and make sure that that the Farm Bill is legislation that continues to support low-income Californians.
Join us every Friday as we discuss key facts about the Farm Bill. Each week we will post about the different populations that rely on the programs set up through the Farm Bill to put food on the table. On a few select weeks we are hosting Twitter Chats. Join us!
