Last week, the California Department Of Aging released the first progress report of the state's Master Plan for Aging. We had identified opportunities that would support our priorities for Californians to age with food and dignity — we are encouraged by the early progress that has been made.
Here's What We Think About the Recently Passed Budget
On July 16, Governor Newsom signed the remaining trailer bills concerning food and nutrition policies to implement the Budget Act of 2021-22. This final budget makes significant one-time and ongoing investments to bolster the state’s nutrition safety net now and in future years. But long-term commitments are still needed.

Advocacy Includes Saying Thanks
Child Care: Some key state policymakers fought hard for child care, including the funding for child care meals. Please take a few minutes to thank the budget leaders who helped secure this historic win.
CalFresh: The 2021-22 State Budget includes funding for the policies proposed in SB 107 (Wiener). State leaders have listened to our broad coalition's call to make CalFresh easier for seniors and people with disabilities. Let's say thanks!
Food4all: The 2021-22 state budget includes funding to begin implementation of the Food4All proposal. Say thanks to the Governor and Legislature for prioritizing a permanent solution to the immigrant exclusion in CalFresh. They also need to hear from you that further long-term investments are needed.
Universal School Meals: The 2021-22 state budget announced June 28 includes a historic investment in school nutrition. Say thanks to the leaders who have led the fight on childhood hunger and have invested in the well being of our students
