COVID’s not over – so why is pandemic unemployment assistance ending?

Federal unemployment benefit programs made possible by the CARES Act are ending on September 4th, 2021. Millions of workers will lose the supplementary unemployment cash they now receive on top of their existing unemployment assistance. That means the extra $300 on top of standard unemployment workers can use to buy food is ending.  California is the most impacted state affected by this change. An estimated 2.2 million Californians will lose their Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

Fighting Poverty with SNAP

At this event, you will hear from the authors of a new report “Fighting Poverty with SNAP” presenting the value and limitations of SNAP/CalFresh to effectively address poverty, especially during economic hardship. Betzabel Estudillo, Nourish CA’s Senior Advocate, will discuss how we can make nutrition programs more inclusive by modernizing the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP) to provide state-funded nutrition benefits to all Californians ineligible for CalFresh solely due to their immigration status.  Learn more and register.
