12.22.2016 Today, CFPA released a new policy brief that presents policy recommendations to increase water access and improve water quality for low-income Californians.
While water access and quality is generally good in the state, serious inequities exist. Locations without access are often rural communities of color already facing economic challenges like high unemployment and poverty. According to data from the State Water Resource Control Board (SWRCB) more than 1 million Californians do not have reliable access to potable water.
As new policy opportunities are explored to help advance the human right to water, California must be steadfast and innovative to alleviate the water inequities that impact households living in poverty or at great risk of hunger.
